**For black nitride only orders we require the entire slide/frame to be disassembled prior to sending the slide/frame to us. This includes removing all internal components from the slide/frame and removing the iron sights from the slide.**
Black Nitride, or Ferritic Nitrocarburizing, is the thermochemical that simultaneously diffuses nitrogen and carbon into the surface of ferrous metals. During the process, a two-part surface layer is formed, an outer iron nitride layer with a nitrogen diffusion layer below it. Nitrogen and carbon are absorbed by and diffused into the surface of the metal. Reproducible and uniform layers with a predetermined thickness will be formed on all areas of the metal. This process results in markedly improved surface properties on ferrous metal parts while maintaining dimensional and shape stability. Black Nitride is commonly used as an alternative to high temperature conventional heat treatments such as carburizing and carbonitriding.

Wow, really make my RIA TAC ULTRA look good. Changing parkerize for nitride is a no-brainer.
I would add a picture if this review allowed and you could see how good it looks now!!

This was the second 1911 I had C&H black nitride do for me. They do an excellent job. I can customize my gun, de-burr, send it out for black nitride. When I get it back all parts fit exactly as before, reassembly, and ready to go. Looks great, has the wear and corrosion resistance I want.
I would recommend C&H services, they are very helpful and professional.
