For those looking for a short version:
The mount works as intended. It allows for co-witness on the Five-seveN (FSN) MRD iron sights. The sights will take up the lower 1/4 of the window, something to keep in mind. I did not have malfunctions while using this mount.
Long version:
I had my doubts about using a C&H mount on my FSN. Forum posts I read about using the ACRO on it seemed to imply that the handgun would become unreliable with anything heavier than 3oz mounted to the slide. The ACRO by itself is already 2.1oz, and C&H did not post any adapter plate weights in the “additional information” for this product. The doubts about the use of the ACRO on the FSN seemed to be supported by the fact that FNH themselves did not offer OEM plates for the optic, but the plates they did offer for other optics were plastic. Furthermore, other manufacturers including C&H themselves were using aluminum plates for other optics. However, C&H was using steel for this particular adapter, which almost made me not buy this particular plate due to weight related concerns.
I e-mailed C&H and Ian Jarrell was kind enough to quickly reply, and specified the mount was roughly 0.10 lbs, and they’ve had several dozen orders with none returned. This was just enough to get me to buy the plate and test it myself. Once received I noticed almost immediately that it felt just as heavy, if not heavier than my ACRO P2. While I was inclined to weigh this mount for the purposes of this review to see about validating the posts on FNForum, I was impatient. On my next free weekend I ran my FSN MRD with the ACRO P2, and a Surefire X300, using a mix of Speer Gold Dot (25728GD), and Federal (AE5728A).
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the pistol not only ran without a single malfunction, but the slide was cycling with authority with both types of ammunition. For those in the know, the Federal ammo is undercharged, and I was certain if something was going to induce a failure, it would be that or subsonics/American Eagle (I did not have either of the latter readily available). So far, 100 rounds in, no issues as of yet.
So if you have any doubts due to weight/reliability C&H says they haven’t had returns in dozens of purchases, and I’m here to tell you mine worked fine. Hopefully your experience is as good as mine.
